The Office of the Vice President for Health Affairs provides oversight of the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System. It connects the clinical mission of the hospital to the research and teaching missions of the University and is charged with generating additional clinical revenue.
The office was created by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees in 2010 in recognition of the wide scope of the University's clinical health care enterprise, which accounts for about one-third of the University's operating budget. Although most health care programs are housed at UIC, programs and services extend throughout the institution and most of the state of Illinois.
The Vice President for Health Affairs reports directly to the president with a secondary reporting relationship to the UIC Vice President/Chancellor.
